US Expat Taxes

The chart below puts taxes US expat taxes into perspective, comparing the tax situation between US citizens residing in the US, US citizens residing outside of the US, and non-US citizens living outside of the US. As you can see, US citizens living inside or outside the US are subject to tax; this is very different from other nations. In some cases, even non-US citizens will be taxed on their investments and earnings from the US (though this is standard amongst most countries).

This chart can help you compare what your situation would be like before and after renouncing. However, due to the ever changing rules of the game, it’s always best to consult with a certified US expat CPA to get specific details concerning US expat taxes. The premises of this graph was inspired by a similar one from Renunciationguide.com. Despite doing what we think was a great job with detailed information, their site has not been updated in years.

X = Taxed
O = Not Taxed
